Fall 2007 Assessment Workshop for

Worldwide Faculty

 

Assistant Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness, Dr. Dick Roach, launched the assessment workshop, updating faculty on assessment initiatives implemented and progress made across the University in the past year.

Tiffany Phagan, Assessment Coordinator, shared general areas of improvement and areas of concern gathered from a review of all academic assessment plans over the past year. She then discussed best assessment practices within the 5-Step assessment framework. See related PowerPoint presentation slides, Best Assessment Practices.

Next, Dr. Ronald Thomas, Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE) at Worldwide, presented key elements of learning objectives. He then illustrated how to link activities and assessments to an objective to demonstrate attainment of that objective. Dr. Thomas alsoreviewed an inventory of assessment methods, presenting the advantages and disadvantages of each. See related PowerPoint presentation slides, Overview of Assessment Methodologies.

Michael Chronister, Survey Research Manager in the Office of Institutional Research, presented an array of data resources available through the Office of Institutional Research (IR) to support assessment planning. He also demonstrated the new IR website and how faculty can access and “slice and dice” census and survey data themselves.
