Fall 2007 Assessment Workshop for

Prescott Faculty

Assistant Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness, Dr. Dick Roach, launched the assessment workshop, updating faculty on assessment initiatives implemented and progress made across the University in the past year.

Next, Dr. Gary Northam, Safety Science Chair at the Prescott Campus, discussed the significance of assessment to our constituents and the importance of validating program level outcomes with those constituent groups.  He also spoke about mapping those outcomes to methods of accomplishment to enable measurement of outcome attainment. Tiffany Phagan, Assessment Coordinator, shared general areas of improvement and areas of concern gathered from a review of all academic assessment plans over the past year. She then discussed best assessment practices within the 5-Step assessment framework. See related PowerPoint presentation slides, Best Assessment Practices.

Dr. Shay Jaggard, Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE) at the Prescott Campus, reviewed an inventory of assessment methods, presenting the advantages and disadvantages of each. Maria Franco, Director of Institutional Research, presented an array of data resources available through the Office of Institutional Research (IR) to support assessment planning. She also demonstrated the new IR website and how faculty can access and “slice and dice” census and survey data themselves.
