Office of Institutional ResearchFall 2007 Assessment Workshop forDaytona Beach Faculty
Assistant Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness, Dr. Dick Roach, launched the assessment workshop, updating faculty on assessment initiatives implemented and progress made across the University in the past year. Next, Drs. Mark Friend and Don Metscher, Applied Aviation Sciences Department at the Tiffany Phagan, Assessment Coordinator, shared general areas of improvement and areas of concern gathered from a review of all academic assessment plans over the past year. She then discussed best assessment practices within the 5-Step assessment framework. See related PowerPoint presentation slides, Best Assessment Practices. Dr. David Pedersen, Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE) at the Daytona Beach Campus, reviewed an inventory of assessment methods, presenting the advantages and disadvantages of each. He also provided an overview of CTLE services. See related PowerPoint presentation slides, Selecting Methods to Assess Student Learning: A Course and Program Perspective. Maria Franco, Director of Institutional Research, presented an array of data resources available through the Office of Institutional Research (IR) to support assessment planning. She also demonstrated the new IR website and how faculty can access and “slice and dice” census and survey data themselves.
